Artist, instrument designer, and all‐around audio explorer Lia Mice travels the world performing in the most unusual venues: a military bunker in Munich, a clock tower in Manhattan, a boat in Lyon. And she’s a repeat headliner at the electronic music festival in the Komyo‐ji Temple in Tokyo.
The Australian‐born, London‐based artist makes music with technology old and new, self‐designed and self‐hacked, analog (samplers) and digital (multimedia software) and even eight‐ track tapes. Her shows are innovative, high‐energy, and quirky.
When asked how long she’s been obsessed with music, Lia answers simply, “Just always.” Music is Lia’s lifeline....
So opens the Music Mavens chapter about Lia Mice, winner of a prestigious Oram Award for innovation in sound, music, and related technologies. Her biography follows a thinker and tinkerer from childhood adventures in music tech to doctoral research in instrument design and performance.
